Has anybody here done this? I don’t mean the same exact car, like you sold it and bought it back again later, but the same make, model, and generation. Has anyone here done this?
I loved the Infiniti J30 that I used to have. I mean, that car, driving it always made me happy no matter what. It met an untimely end due to a wreck on the highway. I miss it. I have my Infiniti I30 now, and I love it just as much, and it’s great to drive, but being a little bit bigger and FWD, as compared to the smaller, four-door coupe shape of the RWD J30, it’s not quite the same.
There was just something about it that I adored. It seems like prices on most of them are going up, unfortunately, but one day, I dream of owning that car again. I want it set up the same way my first one was, with the black body and black leather interior. It had a certain smell to it. There was a certain, how do you say, nirvana when driving it. It was just unlike any other car. Maybe because it was the first car that I actually bought myself. I worked hard to pay for it. And I put exactly 6,000 miles on from the day I bought it to the day it died. I truly do miss it.
Also, keep in mind, if I ever do get one again, it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve done this. I’ve got two first-gen Durangos, a 2000 and a 2002, and I love driving the Durango as well. It’s a completely different type of vehicle of course, and a different feeling when driving it, as compared to a small Japanese car.
But, what I loved about the J30 I think was the drivetrain. It shared an engine with the Nissan 300ZX, a 3.0L V6 putting out 210 hp in the J30, and combined with RWD, even with an auto, I could get that thing around a corner pretty easily.
Maybe someday, I’ll own one again. Not for a few years, but hopefully soon enough, before all the decent examples go away.
Anyone that’s done this, does it fill a void? Is it the same experience you remember, or is it just nostalgia goggles?

I’ve done this. I had a 98 740i and then I bought a 99 740i.
Although, the latter was a M-Sport model with the better suspension, wheels, seats, torque converter, and final drive

I’ve done it a few times before. Here’s my rundown.
79 Camaro & an 81 Camaro. I owned them at the same time. I bought the 81 because I wanted t-tops. The 81 had an anemic 6 cyl though. T-tops were nice though.
I owned a set of triplets for the most part too. I had an 89 Beretta, 88 Corsica, and a 91 Corsica. All essentially the same car. I got them because each one was cheap, and fairly easy to work on. While the Beretta was the best looking of the three, that car was cursed. The center stack with the window switches caught fire three days after I got it. This car also completely shut down once on the NJ turnpike in the left lane doing about 80mph or so. ECU just died for no reason.
The third set of duplicates I owned was an 86 and 87 Honda Accord. Those cars I loved. I had the 86 first and foolishly sold it. A couple of years later I got the 87. That one had an auto though. The 5 speed in the 86 was so much better than the Honda automatic.
Would I own any other vehicle again? Yes. I would love to get another CRX. No car I’ve ever driven has been quite as much fun.

A little embarrassing to admit but I owned the exact same 1990 Lumina two times. And sold it to different members of the same family twice as well.

Yes, and I might do it again!
When I was in HS I picked me up a 1991 4cl Cavalier coupe. It lasted 3 years and I liked the 2nd gen J-body platform so I traded it in for a 1994 RS with the moar powah 3.1L V6 to fix my only complaint with the car (it was slow).
So not only have I owned the same car twice, but back to back.
I’m very tempted by the Focus RS to do go back to the Focus tree once more as well (college car was a 2000 zx3).

I had a 2000 Neon and 1995 Neon at the same time.... a 1997 Legacy and a 1998 Legacy at the same time.... and a 1998 Crown Vic and a 2001 Crown Vic at the same time.
BUT, the only car I had once and bought again would be my 1977 Firebird Esprit I had when I was 16, and currently my 1977 Firebird Trans Am and I’m now 35.
It counts, right?

‘92 325i, 94’ 325is, ‘99 323is
My ‘92 was in family until the day I flipped it in 2011. Best of the bunch and the car I drove through high school. Non-vanos motor that rev’d like a crackhead. In my mind, it is the most fun out of the 3.
Bought a 325is a year later & drove it daily for 1.5 years and gave it to my sister. Quieter, less rev happy, but still very sonorous. Sports suspension and a bit more fling-able. Lots of money & care has been put into the car. Upgrade.
The ‘99 I’ve had for 1 year now. It is my daily, but needs more umph. I’ve put more money into it than the previous two, but at this point, I just need to buy an S52 to throw in it. Dead quiet w/ windows up. An M3 exhaust (mid pipes + catback) were pulled off a garage queen and put on. It got even quieter. Downgrade :/

Hell yeah!
Two third generation Hyundai Elantra GT hatchbacks.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Before buying the second one, I looked at the Honda Fit, Ford Focus, Mazda 3 and others in the 2005-2010 range but the 3rd gen (2004-2006) Elantras were still the best bang for the buck.
